If you’re a fan of Georgian folk dance and music, make sure to mark August 24 on your calendar now! On this date, the State Academic Song and Dance Ensemble of Georgia—known as "Erisioni"—will bring Georgian national folklore, culture, and traditions to life on the stage of the Black Sea Arena as part of the Starring Georgia project.
Although the ensemble was officially named "Erisioni" only in 1999, its roots trace back to 1885, when it was first formed as a state academic ensemble of Georgian folk song and dance. This means that "Erisioni" is celebrating 140 years of showcasing Georgian culture and traditions. Over its long history, "Erisioni" has enchanted audiences with its sophisticated creativity and captivating performances.
"Erisioni" is renowned not only across the globe but even in space. Yes, you read that correctly! In 1977, NASA sent a recording of the traditional Georgian song "Chakrulo" into space, performed by members of "Erisioni." The ensemble is a regular guest on international stages and in concert halls. For over a century, they have delighted audiences in major cities like Paris, Geneva, Brussels, New York, and many more with their authentic performances.
In the 21st century, "Erisioni" continued to shine. Their performance of "Legend Tamar" in the USA in 2000 was a tremendous success. From 2001 to 2007, the "Georgian Legend" program, a result of collaboration with American producer John Low, was actively performed in France and other European countries, winning the hearts of countless viewers. Notably, the beloved song "Shatilis Asulo" is part of this show.
It’s important to note that "Erisioni" concerts are more than just entertainment. They offer a unique experience of traditional Georgian polyphonic singing, a form of music without equal anywhere in the world, providing listeners with a deep connection to Georgia's character and nature. "Erisioni" excels at transporting international audiences to Georgia, sharing its authentic spirit, as reflected in positive reviews from prestigious media outlets like the "New York Post" and the "Los Angeles Times."
Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity. Join us at the Black Sea Arena on August 24 for a truly spectacular event. The atmosphere will be so captivating that you'll likely find yourself wanting to join in the dance, because when it comes to "Erisioni," it’s practically impossible not to!
