Every day many of us say that it is time to start living a healthier life, it is time to become more active and be more careful of our environment. But in these thoughts, winter is slowly approaching us, then spring rains will start again and in the meantime, we forget our thoughts.
In 1956, the American Cycling League founded Bike to Work Day to promote an active lifestyle and culture of cycling at work. Bike to Work Day is exactly the day that reminds us of our "active" plans and gives us great motivation - not to put off doing good deeds until Monday.
Why should we participate in Bike to Work Day?
Getting involved in Bike to Work Day means cycling, which does not imply just cycling to work. This day is an opportunity that will have a positive impact on your whole day:
Cycling to work requires getting up earlier than usual, which in turn helps you to use the time spent before work for other activities.
All this ensures that when you enter the office you will already be well awake. Most importantly you will be ready to meet the new day with a completely positive perspective.
The extra exercise you do will have a positive effect on your eating ethics, targets and goals. Exercise is characterized by something that is a little difficult to explain in words. So if you just want to improve your health or lose a few pounds, cycling to work in the morning can be a great motivator.
If health is not your biggest motivation, then potential cost savings can convince you to try the Bike to Work Day campaign. It can help you save on transportation costs, be it bus or subway tickets, not to mention fuel, which is one of the main sources of emissions.
Finally, if you still do not have enough reason to use a bicycle, then we remind you that the bicycle is an environmentally friendly transport and by using it you can reduce carbon footprint and help the environment. On average, the car emits 271g of CO2 per mile traveled. The bus emits an average of 101g CO2 per kilometer and guess what? The bike emits only 16g of CO2 per kilometer, which is released from the cyclist's fuel, i.e. from the food you eat.
It's hard to deny the potential benefits of cycling, so don't hesitate and give it a try! What are you waiting for?
How to celebrate? Get out and start cycling! Set yourself a goal to start cycling to work on Mondays, then increase the intensity and travel twice a week with this eco transport. If you enjoy it, continue three, four or even five days a week. And if you involve a group of friends in this initiative and walk together - it will be wonderful at all. Bike to Work Day exists to give you the effort to start using your bike, but whether it will last, in the long run, is up to you.
